Undergraduate final project
The project offers a way to preserve and develop a method of traditional handicrafts in English typography, through application in the Hebrew language.
Before the invention of printing, the signs in the urban space were painted by sign painters, who have undergone vocational certification and are skilled in accurate painting with brush and paint combined with a deep understanding of typography. The profession was taught in the United States at technological colleges of trade, and thus the common technique, style, and letter types for American sign painting were established.
As part of the project, 7 Hebrew typesets have been designed as part of 3 font families, that correspond to the common fonts in the style of the American signs. Their creation was influenced by the form of work with unique brushes.
In addition, I made a guiding kit for the beginner sign painter, which contains a booklet and practice posters.
